Alfred has decades of experience in corporate restructuring, finance, law, and capital markets. As CEO of the Lehndorff Group, he led a successful $1 billion debt restructuring and oversaw the formation of two of Canada’s first publicly listed real estate investment trusts, as well as a business combination with Dundee Realty Corporation (now Dream Unlimited Corp.). As CEO of Realm Inc. (formerly NewStar Technologies), he also led a four-company consolidation, resulting in North America’s leading commercial real estate enterprise software company, Argus Software Inc.

Long recognized as leading Canadian legal counsel in high-stakes corporate mergers, acquisitions, private equity, and structured finance transactions, Alfred served as debtor counsel in the $32 billion restructuring of the Canadian third-party asset-backed commercial paper (ABCP) market—the largest debt restructuring in Canadian history. For more than a decade, he served as national head of the structured finance and securitization practice at Miller Thomson LLP.

In addition to serving on the boards of several public and private companies, Alfred has mentored the leadership teams of a number of successful Canadian companies. As well as serving as Chair of the Empire Club of Canada and the CAMH Foundation, he has served as a director and/or advisor to  a number of Canadian academic, charitable and public service institutions and organizations. From 2009 to 2012, he served as President of the Liberal Party of Canada.
